BREAKING:Fort Worth police officer who fatally shot woman in her own home has resigned faces charges

Fort Worth police officer who fatally shot woman in her own home has resigned, faces criminal charges, police say

The white Fort Worth police officer who shot and killed Atatiana Jefferson, a 28-year-old black woman, in her home has resigned from the department and faces possible criminal charges, police said Monday.

Jefferson's family is demanding an independent investigation of the officer, identified as Aaron Dean, and the department's practices. "We demand justice," Jefferson's older sister, Ashley, said during a Monday news conference, "through an independent, thorough and transparent process."

The white Fort Worth officer killed Jefferson, a black woman, in her home early Saturday by firing through a bedroom window. Police said they had been responding to a call about an open door at the residence. Officers were dispatched to the home after a neighbor dialed a non-emergency line to request a welfare check because he noticed that the door was ajar and the lights were on, the Fort Worth Star-Telegram reported.

While searching the outside of the house, police said, an officer saw someone standing near a window, and "perceiving a threat, the officer drew his duty weapon and fired one shot striking the person inside the residence."

1. In an ideal world, Ms Jefferson's family could file a wrongful death lawsuit

that would take the murdering policeman for every cent he has or ever hopes to have and would also bankrupt Fort Worth. The only way to stop these killings is to hit 'em in the pocketbook, where it hurts.
Sadly, I'm fairly sure neither of these things will ever happen.

4. No, if you've seen any of the family members being interviewed, they are no fools.

There will be a major lawsuit against the city, the police dept. and the faulty response to the 311, non-emergency call that was made.

places like the Botanic Gardens will no longer be free to the public. It is already happening. I went to the Fort Worth Botanic Garden just today, and it is no longer free. You have to pay to enjoy our beautiful gardens. I have lived here all my life and now only the people who can afford entry get the pleasure of enjoying the gardens.

So, when cities go bankrupt because of corrupt enforcers then we all pay the price. One way or another.

2. There needs to be a better way to determine who has the cool head needed to be a police officer.

This killer panicked at a shadow in a window and blasted away in four seconds.

Send his ass to the same jail Guyger is in.

Would at least be a start. At present I don't think that they have any standards at all.

I'm not defending the officers or the shooting in the least, but response doesn't seem to match what the call was about.

Sans the snivelling, hugging, and Bible bs.

A longer sentence too.

These animals need to learn that shooting innocent civilians minding their own business in their own homes is simply unacceptable. No matter how "scared" they are.
