Im not telling you anything you havent already watched 30 or 40 times. He got buried by nearly 100 decibels of noise at Game 5 of the World Series, as the Washington Nationals played the Houston Astros in his adopted home of Washington, D.C. while surrounded by his wife, Melania Trump, and his most faithful pets, Lindsey Graham, Matt Gaetz, and more.
His face took the following journey over an amazing 15 seconds:

it is, remarkably, a face weve never seen on Trump before; weve seen a lot of versions of this guy during his life in the spotlightfrom his time as the 80s mascot for corporate greed to his time as a bankrupt casino owner to his time as a racist conspiracy theorist. Fifty years is a long time in the spotlightyou see a guy from a lot of angles.

This is the first time weve seen all the muscles in Trump's face strain against any reaction; the first time weve watched his breath catch. Even his lap dog Gaetz turned his head around slowly to clock how the president was handling it all (and it was as if Melania knew to keep her eyes forward). The reaction on his favorite platform, Twitter, has been largely celebratory, taking this ad hoc and pure expression of disapproval from the depths of the countrys capital and putting words to it. Of course, there were naysayers too. The hosts of MSNBCs Morning Joe paid the incident some poorly pitched hand-wringing, saying no president deserved such a reaction. That take quickly became a chum in the water, helping to extend the story on Monday morning.

Trump appears pathetically, awfully pitiable here. For those few seconds, while he stands there trying not to look at anyone, he was fully, purely himself without all the preening excess and pretend swagger, a guy who doesnt work toward anything except approval.
My impression on watching the video the first time and many repeated viewings, is that while attempting (unsuccessfully) to pretend he doesn't hear the booing, he looks enraged and wishing to exterminate everyone within the stadium for daring to voice disapproval of him.

(3,266 posts)I did feel pity for him. In that second where he takes in a couple of gasps, I could almost feel the punch in the gut he got. I can see waves of shock, confusion, and pain cross his face in that second.
Nothing penetrates a narcissist's veneer like ridicule. It's the thing they fear most, and this was unexpected - in fact the complete opposite of what he expected. Plus, it was in front of his wife, his closest (friends? ass-lickers? sycophants?) AND on national TV. I admit that I felt his pain in that moment. He's suffered very few blows like that in his life. He doesn't feel deeply very often, but he felt this, and it cut him to his core.
But then I got over it, and thought Good, he deserves it. I can't get all the way to gloat, but I am glad that he had that painful shock to his fucking goddamn ego.

Amongst many things, he hates dogs.

(53,410 posts)He has had a public face all his life. Necessary in order to not give away any indication of his lying. He has learned to school his public face to perfection. Only this time he was in the process of showing his magnanimous hero face when he was caught off guard by the obvious booing, the oversized anti Trump banners and the chanting. Those few seconds were him realizing what was going on and searching desperately for the right face to show, and failing to find it because hes never rehearsed or even developed one.
It created a kind of rigor Mortis moment with his facial muscles going rigid for a few seconds. He was at a loss about how to react.
The reaction of embarrassment and rage would come after the first second or two that we witnessed.

(32,777 posts)Remember when everybody booed him in the stadium? Not sure if it was a playoff game or the World Series, but he got seriously booed. I'm sure he would have skipped the game if he had known ahead of time. Same with Chump.
