U.S. Is Near Pact to Cut $1 Billion From Egypts DebtBecause our government is scared of Egyptians not liking us, but unafraid of you and me?
Wake up, folks. Until our government is scared of us, this depression will continue as will the continuous showering of gifts unto the bankers.

(31,011 posts)Egypt is of strategic interest to the US for a lot of reasons...most importantly...OIL.
Agree with it or not, the US wants a stable government in that part of the world and will pay a billion bucks for it. Old Hosni got the cash before he was booted out of power.
Pakistan is another one who gets huge sums of cash to help ensure their stability.
It's fucked up, but that how the US has done business for some time.

And now, the Baggers and Bullies want to cut away even more!

(24,692 posts)But what of poor nations who borrowed from banks fat with OPEC deposits in the '70s in order to pay high oil bills and maintain rates of economic growth that were already behind those of rich nations.
What can they do to satisfy the demands of nations and institutions that want the loans repaid? Where can they go to find relief and to recover their dignity?
One answer floating about is to relieve the debt of the world's poorest countries - to cancel it. And, while Jubilee 2000 believes that "canceling the crushing debt burden of poor countries is a matter of justice and compassion," it wants you to know that forgiving the debt also serves the self-interests of people in rich countries, who are affected by economic, social and environmental problems in poor countries.
Forgiving the debt will not eliminate Third World poverty, but it is a necessary first step. Can we afford $4 a year over the next 20 years? Jubilee 2000 and an increasing number of world leaders argue that we cannot afford not to pay that $4 a year over the next 20 years, if our global community is to have even the slightest chance to succeed.
