Washington Nationals pitcher and World Series MVP Stephen Strasburg isn’t what you would call an active Twitter user.

Before Monday, the notoriously quiet Strasburg hadn’t tweeted since April 19, 2018, when he thanked a movie theater for an early screening of “Super Troopers2,” a movie the Nationals apparently enjoyed. Since then, even amid the team’s thrilling World Series run, it has been online silence for Strasburg.

But then someone accused him of snubbing President Donald Trump on a handshake attempt.

An awkward interaction with Trump following his comments during the Nationals’ White House visit resulted in many people joking that Strasburg, an impending free agent, had left the president hanging.

One such video circulating on Twitter caught the attention of the pitcher himself, who fired off his first tweet in 18 months to refute the emerging narrative. His choice of words: one of the president’s most popular catchphrases. "Fake News".
