I recall the old voting machines, that had switches like those used by telephone operators, and you would pull a curtain when you went into vote. You had privacy and secrecy. Nobody but you would know how you voted. It was an American thing.
Do people still value their vote the way our ancestors did? I do believe when we survive this present ordeal, we will be much stronger for it, not because of it, but in spite of it.
The ballot is more powerful than the bullet.

(17,863 posts)We have these tiny temporary desks with sides to obscure viewing. Of course we can have votes on both sides of the paper. The paper is then taken to the scanner. Anyone standing near the scanner could possibly see some of your votes.
Still I prefer it to any touchscreen voting without a paper trail.

(146,308 posts)No curtains where I am, but I've never seen anyone trying to take a peek at my ballot, either. We vote on paper ballots, which are scanned by an optical reader.
