This is essentially confirming the data already submitted by the County Election Boards.

(82,849 posts)Wouldn't it be a hoot if this re-canvass turned up voting irregularities that not only confirmed that Bevin lost, but that there were miscounts in favor of other Republican candidates?

(6,386 posts)...and I think this is kind of a formality. In most states, a race this close would trigger an automatic recount. KY's laws are such that someone has to ask for it...so he's asking. If the numbers were reversed, I would expect Beshear would do the same thing.
I don't read this as part of a grand plan to reverse last night's results but more of the normal "are we sure" kind of hail mary pass. Kind of business as usual.
Now - this chit that the legislature has the authority to pic the Gov in a race this close...that's the call to steal the election. It's telling that they have to go back to some law that hasn't been used for 150 years of so to find some way to screw with the outcome. What a bunch of asshats.

(42,767 posts)"At the recanvass, each political party represented on the board may appoint a representative there to be its governing body, and also each candidate to be voted for may be present, either in person or by a representative or both. The county board of elections shall authorize representatives of the news media to observe the recanvass of the votes cast on the voting machine in each precinct."

(15,657 posts)In Kentucky, if a candidate contests the outcome of an election, it throws the decision to the legislature, who can determine the outcome regardless of the will of the voters.
It would be brazen, but the GOP majority could steal this for Bevin.

(14,494 posts)Moved here in his teens. Neither is Bevin, a native of Colorado and grew up (?) in New Hampshire. Bevin's Wikipedia page reads like a right-wing campaign ad.
Making note of Rand Paul as well (a native of PA then Texas), we seem vulnerable to attracting the worst of America.
