(23,953 posts)certainly making threats against the whistleblower and/or the immediate family would be effective in discouraging other whistleblowers, but that is obviously illegal.
there is another way, and it looks like they are using it now.
have various pundits name others who are not "the whistleblower", thus encouraging redhat loyalist threats against them and their families.
what this says to people of conscience: "go ahead and whistleblow, we won't out you, but we'll make damned sure someone else's life is completely wrecked because of your actions. give us an excuse to attack our other political enemies directly. go ahead. enjoy the show."
how many lives will they be able to ruin this way, for each "the whistleblower" they out? they're going to need to go big with the first few to really make an impression.
