They own 1 of every 4 pigs in America.
If they can keep the swine fever out of the US...if they can keep from having to kill the pigs in this country.... while the disease decimates their own herds, they can feed their population with US-raised pigs.
The future wars will be over food and water, and the Chinese are outmaneuvering us early on.
With trump fucking the tariff wars up, and with China - and Russia - ascendant in the world, we have a lot of catching up to do.

...as now constituted the American consumer may be outbid or at least stressed pricewise in buying proteins. Instead of normal price fluctuations driven nationally and facing high prices because XYZ loves bacon you are now facing international competition for staple proteins that now play out in beef and pork...

In addition to a stringent feed ban imposed by the Food and Drug Administration in 1997 as well as the removal of all specified risk material which could harbor BSE, USDA has a strong surveillance program in place to detect signs of BSE in cattle in the United States. In fact, we test for BSE at levels ten times greater than World Animal Health Organization standards. The program samples approximately 40,000 animals each year and targets cattle populations where the disease is most likely to be found. The targeted population for ongoing surveillance focuses on cattle exhibiting signs of central nervous disorders or any other signs that may be associated with BSE, including emaciation or injury, and dead cattle, as well as non-ambulatory animals

Given the government’s (Especially Republicans) love of deregulations and the power of some groups, I have to wonder.

I don’t think the US would have slaughtered great numbers of cattle as the UK did.
