If you don't want to get fired on Remembrance Day, don't make bigoted comments on or around Remembrance Day
Just some advice

(24,345 posts)Should have been fired a long time ago -- totally agree
The CBC has several videos with interesting analysis and some history on the guy
He accused one reporter that he had a dispute with of not caring about children with cancer. The guy apparently got lots of angry mail

(1,385 posts)On December 7, 2010, Cherry attended the inaugural meeting of Toronto City Council, where he placed the chain of office around incoming Mayor Rob Ford's neck.[45] Cherry was asked to say a few remarks and he opened by stating "I'm wearing pink for all the pinkos out there that ride bicycles and everything, I thought Id get it in." He then went on to state that he had "been ripped to shreds by the left-wing pinko newspapers out there" and ended saying "And that's why I say he's gonna be the greatest mayor this city has ever, ever seen, as far as I'm concerned! And put that in your pipe, you left-wing kooks."

(1,385 posts)Apparently he can't count.... the too many men penalty in the Stanley cup series against the Canadiens, Guy Lafeur scored in the last minute and the Bruins lost. Cherry was fired.
Cherry is also listed in the list of players who played one game in the NHL.

(8,438 posts)I remember watching it. LOL.
His comments about Swedes, Europeans, Russians, etc. in the game where disgusting. I'm so glad about players like Ovechkin, Jagr, Forsberg, etc...
Then there's his lust for violence and bagging on retired enforcers for speaking out against fighting.

(12,047 posts)Calling Sid Crosby a hot dog for celebrating goals was the last straw for me, and he really hated Europeans for being bringing soft hockey to his sport

(1,385 posts)On a two on one crossing the blue line...the Leaf defenseman's fear....LOL...they scored, easily. Brilliant players, the goons of the NHL had no answer for them, they were too smart & fast. Changed the style of hockey dramatically for the better.

(1,385 posts)Cherry was the part-owner and the former coach of the Ontario Hockey League's Mississauga IceDogs. As owner and general manager, he gained notoriety by refusing to take part in the CHL import draft, and by only playing North American born players. The IceDogs' first three seasons were difficult ones with the team winning a total of 16 games combined. Cherry took over coaching duties in the fourth season. During Cherry's one season as head coach of the IceDogs, the team managed 11 victories (only a slight improvement) and failed to make the playoffs for the fourth straight year. Cherry drew some criticism for his sudden decision to allow European born players onto the IceDogs line-up during the one season he coached the team

(32,098 posts)Should've been done a long time ago. Here's hoping he takes the remaining meatheads with him.
Nice to see that The Bunch of Jerks are getting the last laugh. He's gone. The Hurricanes continue to celebrate their wins as they see fit, without his childish name-calling. Good on them! I root for another team, but I continue to enjoy their celebrations after a win.
