https://www.newsweek.com/tammy-duckworth-veterans-day-tijuana-mexico-deported-1471118Duckworth, who lost both of her legs in 2004 while serving in Iraq, said she had wanted to spend the day in Tijuana to honor the service of veterans who have been turned away from the U.S. despite serving for the country.
In a statement following her visit to The Bunker, a shelter for veterans who have been deported from the U.S., Duckworth said she was both "ashamed of and heartbroken by how our nation is treating the deported veterans I met with."
"They are Americans all but on paper, many of whom enlisted after then-President George W. Bush signed an executive order fast-tracking citizenship for those willing to servebut who, because of things like lost paperwork, fell through the cracks, never officially became citizens," she said.

(70,501 posts)Trump makes me ashamed for my country. Everyone of those vets need to be brought back into
the country they fought for and given a fresh start, a place to stay, and help in finding a job.
BTW you are right Trump really is a monster. He brings in hispanics to work on and at his golf
courses* but uses his hatred of dark people to appeal to his racist base.

My whole town practically lived there: From Costa Rica to New Jersey, a pipeline of illegal workers for Trump goes back years

(82,849 posts)I'm sure the folks at The Bunker would be just fascinated to hear Don Jr. tell them how his personal experiences compare to being in the military.

(36,845 posts)Dozens of deported U.S. military veterans and their families celebrated Veterans Day in Tijuana, Mexico, with a special guest: Iraq War combat veteran and Illinois Sen. Tammy Duckworth.
It was an emotional day at the Deported Veterans Support House, also known as the "bunker," where deported veterans shared their stories with Duckworth.
The stories were eerily similar. The veterans were born in Mexico but were raised in the U.S. As young adults, they enlisted and served in the military. Years later, they were deported following a felony conviction.
"They all touched my heart," Duckworth told WBEZ following the event.
"The fact they've had to watch their families grow up from [far] away. The fact that so many of them served and volunteered to serve," Duckworth added. "The fact that many of them thought they had citizenship and then found out later that they didn't have citizenship. Or that they can't get their healthcare."

(58,785 posts)Good job all around.
But most analysts have a dark view of DACA's chances before SCOTUS.
Who we vote for or don't MATTERS. SCOTUS would have a liberal majority now if more of those who claim to be in sympathy with DACA recipients had voted Democrat to protect them.
Next time someone says to any of us that there's no real difference between Democrats and Republicans, we should tell the inexcusably stupid bastard off. Big time.
