(67,782 posts)It's almost like two different states. Plus her district looks like it's about one-third of the entire main part of the state (other than NYC/Long Island) That shows how sparsely populated that area is. Almost all of that district is a state forest reserve.
As you get north or west of Albany it's really right wing territory. Check out this map of the 2016 election by county. Clinton won with 60% of the vote:

(130,895 posts)It includes all or parts of Clinton, Essex, Franklin, Fulton, Hamilton, Herkimer, Jefferson, Lewis, Saratoga, St. Lawrence, Warren, and Washington counties. It includes the cities of Ogdensburg, Glens Falls, Plattsburgh and Watertown. The district includes most of the Adirondack Mountains and the Thousand Islands region. It borders Vermont to the east. It also includes Fort Drum of the US army.
From 2003 to 2013, the district contained most of the Capital District of New York. It included all or parts of Albany, Fulton, Montgomery, Rensselaer, Saratoga, Schenectady, and Schoharie counties. It contained the cities of Albany, Schenectady, Troy, Amsterdam, Cohoes, Watervliet, Gloversville and Johnstown.

(67,782 posts)That's probably why they voted Democratic before 2016. The Albany area is an oasis of Democrats.

(1,285 posts)was my district until it basically became the 20th and was/is D stronghold. Ive lived here since 1990 and Ive never had an R Representative.
The old 20th was Kirsten Gillebrands district. The R Congressman before her was one of the gang of Brooks Brother suits who stopped the recount in Florida of Bush/Gore. Most of that district is now the 19th, which flipped to the Dems again in 2018.

(9,090 posts)i'll bet all the local blowhards on those stations will attacking cobb if she looks like a threat, especially ones in and around that district, and they'll be doing it while the stations wave syracuse orange banners
the uni is a good place to protest for that reason. all those stations will lose advertisers if the school starts to discusss the isssue

(6,699 posts)I drive across the country at least twice a year. Once I leave the large metro areas, the only radio stations available are bible thumping evangelical lunatics and vannity/limpballs or some other asswipe from the reichstag. These people get nothing else to listen to. I feel bad for them, but until we balance the political opinion stations, we are fighting an uphill, impossible battle in the countryside.

(9,090 posts)because any activism aimed at it should get the ad industry's attention to the fact artificial intelligence suddenly makes it very easy and cheap to digitize talk radio - that means advertisers can be listed and asosciated directly with the racism and global warming denial and trump love. when the ad industry has stop bundling reluctant advertisers looking for a deal and has to start asking clients if they really want to support trump etc - many will flee
the ad industry wants those stations and will force them to start offering alternatives and balance
all it will take is protests at unis, or some boycotts using AI to get their attention. the ccons own 'market demand' will do the rest

(9,090 posts)6 limbaugh stations depend on SU to keep attracting advertisers to the 6 linmbuagh stations they broadcast sports on.
i'm still trying to find out why limbaugh was demoted off the loudest radio station in colorado - 850 koa - where he's been for 25 years or more - but i do know there was activism around CU buffs broadcasting sports on it.
that was one station - SU supports 6 stations, some of which might broadcast in stefaniks area, but if cobb becomes a threat they might all be used to attack her. the fact stefanik is a strong trump defender is a pretty good indicator she's a dittohead who likely visits some of those stations, or gets her surrogates to
