(82,849 posts)The administration and the Department of Justice have taken a hard line for the president that he can't be prosecuted for any criminal acts while in office, so I wouldn't be surprised if they try to extend that to cabinet level officials.

(43,146 posts)These top 4 or 5 perps should do hard time. And Wilbur Ross is never mentioned.
The country is very quiet. Fewer posts on DU today, I attended a luncheon last week and no one mentioned politics. Zippo. I think there is a sense now, after today's bombshells, of uncertainty. Now what? Where do we go from here, how do we deal with this.

(36,053 posts)protect and defend it against scofflaws, are the first way we deal with abuse of the powers of politics.
How to deal with "this" (maybe whatever people think is 'wrong' about leadership, who knows) is through impeachment. Only the 4th impeachment in US history, what's happening might not be clear to the public that hasn't kept up with politics, but hearings give good information to Americans that allow them to think, read more about the law, Constitution, and the due process work of good governance.
The impeachment process engenders greater trust in government to govern itself according to constitutional law. To see how a nation of laws is different from a nation of men is needed by citizens of a democracy as big as this one. Also by OECD countries of the West.
People's silence might mean they are watching, thinking, reading more, and hopefully, learning how politics and our international relations are connected to them. 40% who don't vote might rethink their reasons or the lack of.
Overall, a quiet country might not be a bad thing.

(43,146 posts)These proceedings may well give a boost to citizenship awareness, more people may come to realize life is more than how much money and plastic junk you can grab into your life, that it all makes little sense if you are being plundered every time you turn around and your civil rights are being stolen.
Trump has empowered thievery at the highest level and stretched the law to suit his objectives. We need to quit the selective enforcement and put some teeth into the rule of law that deal with big players and big issues.

There are NO towns of any appreciable size (Lima is the largest, and <40K), let alone cities. Deliberately so.
