(24,223 posts)If they think all of this information that is out will hurt trumps reelection in 2020 and cost them the Senate they will force him to resign
very well could be the long awaited walk of the wise men.
i find the roster interesting.

(1,660 posts)These aren't your daddy's Republican senators. They'll chose being "Republican" over being "American" every time. No matter how "conflicted" they'll say they are....
gratuitous
(82,849 posts)It would very nice if it was, but I doubt it.
I think it's more along the lines of Needy Amin bullyragging Senate Republicans and making sure their restraints and harnesses are still securely buckled in as the Trump Train plunges into Corruption Ravine.

After all----it was Goldwater who went to Nixon.
It has to come from McConnell.

I think it's more likely these are the only tools left that would actually show up.
I do wish that I could be a server at that lunch, though. That's a comedy troupe of GOP. Just a bunch of really sad clowns.

(37,160 posts)...the ones Mitt was so adamant about not releasing in 2012, which the Republicans were ok with, paving the way for the Howler Monkey to blow it off entirely.
ScratchCat
(1,988 posts)Because then Mitt can walk right over to Barr's office and then right to the cameras and tell the world what just happened. Then Pence would be President Monday morning.

(9,139 posts)Cash and fabulous prizes?
With Trump, it'll probably be a combination of attempted bribes and the threat of turning his rabid, toothless base against them.
He'll first want to know how they would vote in a trial, then ask them "what it would take" for them to support him if they're wavering. If they aren't forthcoming in their support, he'll give them the old "it'd be a shame if something happened to your political career".

They called the meeting with trump and its not about the good coffee and burgers served in the Whitehouse

(9,263 posts)these people have polling and they have analysts and professionals looking at the impact of the hearings, They been running test groups and all the algorithms available to give a prognosis on the effect on the gOP NOW and the 2020 primaries and the 2020 general election.
These senators aren;t there to stroke his ego
cbdo2007
(9,213 posts)If the Senators called the meeting...they are probably going to ask him to explain himself, cause their votes are all on the line.
If Trump called the meeting, he's probably going to offer them something and test their loyalty.
beachbumbob
(9,263 posts)as most these see trump as toxic and would find better things to do than waste time with trump.

I suspect that instead, they'll go mouthing off repeating the latest ridiculous ranting and raving that rump has come up with.
Maybe one day they'll grown a spine and act for Country, not rump, not party.
I doubt it, though. That's fine (no choice), we'll just stomp their a&& big time in the upcoming 2020 elections big time.

(334 posts)More hot air from Orange Balloon. Their house is on fire, but Trump says the house is in perfect shape - better shape than its ever been.... no one else can keep this house in shape better than him. The GOPers will lap it up because they are weak.

(1,849 posts)This would be the moment where the establishment republicans play their resign, or we have the votes to convict you in the senate, and we will not hesitate to, because we are sick of your shit, and no, you dont have a choice. Enjoy your eggs Benedict. Then stand up and walk out of the breakfast.
I can dream.
kentuck
(111,089 posts)He just doesn't want more than three Senators to vote against him. The majority voting against him would be terribly damaging politically, even though it would not be enough to convict.

(1,988 posts)Why don't they just tell him "no"? Why would anyone who is part of a separate branch of government keep going to "private" meetings at the request of the POTUS?
OliverQ
(3,363 posts)Republicans in Congress don't view themselves as a separate branch, they view themselves as only there to do Trump's bidding.
