Trumps cowardly devotees do not seem moved or likely to move. Maybe one or two-maybe none. The Senate is his. Its on to the election. It kinda feels the way it felt after the solar eclipse was over.

(5,695 posts)The closer to the general election the Senate verdict comes in - and it will obviously be an acquittal - the better it is for our side. It just can't be too close to throw up tons of ads against vulnerable repub senators. We want the memory of the vote fresh enough in people's minds to remain angry and motivated to go to the polls next November.

(1,868 posts)But as was pointed out somewhere else, this ceased to become about trump and instead has become about an attempt to expose what republicans are willing to defend. Which doesnt matter at all to their base.
Its kind of frustrating. As I ask my wife (and anyone else who doesnt have to listen to me) is there anyone at this point who does not know if they will vote for trump in 2020? The obvious answer to that question should be no. Anyone who tries to tell me they havent decided is a liar. The only honest indecision I could accept would be which democratic candidate is preferred, but that applies to the primary.
But this was true for most folks I know long before the impeachment proceedings got started. Everything that went before us this week was political grandstanding. That became obvious from the tone of questions that every single republican favored. Every. Single. Republican.
And that right there should inform a lot of decisions we consider going forward.
