* Despite his mobster amorality, even with his shamelessness it's a black mark of society. He has craved acceptance by society all his life.

* "Making the deal" would give him his ultimate validation as a deal maker.

* He could bruit it about that he "won" and twist not being impeached as being exonerated.

* He could raise that many tons more cash.

* Going all the way to the Senate, even with acquital, there is still the mark on him, even with claiming victim status & raising money.
