RE your recent comment that Trump is the chosen one and sent by God to do great things, I have to ask the obvious questions.
If God wanted to choose someone his good works to perform, wouldnt that someone be a president who was a model Christian, a faithful husband, an exemplary father? Wouldnt he have chosen a president who united a country, was respected by our allies and feared by the enemies who would undo our democracy? Wouldnt he have selected a president who endeavoured to feed the hungry, shelter the homeless, and care for the sick as Jesus admonished his followers to do?
Wouldnt God, in his infinite wisdom, have chosen a president who strove to be a true steward of the earth, one who would protect the environment and our natural resources? Wouldnt God have picked a president who embraced ideas like being our brothers keeper, and ideals like doing unto others what we would have done to ourselves?
Wouldnt God choose a president who initiated affordable healthcare for all, who recognized the plight of the poorest among us and tried to ease their burdens, who spoke the truth even when it wasnt politically expedient to do so, and who encouraged global brotherhood and unity?
My biggest question is this: Exactly when do those great things start happening?
All weve seen so far is children in cages, laws that safeguard the environment overturned, the deficit exploded to give tax-cuts to the wealthy, and lies and more lies, and more lies.
Id really like to hear your explanation of why God chose a lying, pussy-grabbing adulterer who has kow-towed to our enemies and distanced us from our allies, has abandoned our friends, the Kurds, and left them to be slaughtered, has trotted out his greed-driven children as advisors, has put inept cronies in positions of power, and has surrounded himself with the best people many of whom are now in prison and/or are convicted felons.
Why would God choose a president who goes against every principle our nation has traditionally stood for, a president who has used his position to encourage violence, and has used his office to enrich himself while undermining the foundations of our democracy? Why would God choose a president who cant string two coherent thoughts together, who spends his time tweeting covfefe between golf games, and openly defies our laws and the Constitution?
Seriously, dude you expect us to believe that among all of the available politicians in the US, God looked at Trump and said, Yeah, the lying scumbag who has spent his entire life cheating people, stealing from workers, molesting women, paying-off porn stars, encouraging racism, and is willing to sell out his own country for personal gain thats the guy Im backing.
Given the revelations of the past few weeks, if I were you, Ricky, Id be spending my time lawyering-up instead of promoting the ludicrous idea that God is on Trumps side because hes not. And hes not on your side either.
I do acknowledge the one thing that demonstrates any intelligence on your part: choosing to spew your bullshit on FOX-News to an audience that is so brain-dead, theyre actually willing to listen to it.

(440 posts)Evangelicals believe God uses flawed people to do his work; see the King Cyrus article previously posted. A simple Google search on that phrase, "God uses flawed people" turns up a million links.
The biblical story the Christian right uses to defend Trump
God uses imperfect people
God uses flawed people
Will God use an imperfect witness?
This concept, more than anything, has made me realize that there is absolutely nothing anyone can say or do to make evangelicals turn away from Trump. I truly believe that in their minds the more flawed the better.

(27,814 posts)I participate on The List, a kind of newsletter circulated among friends, and friends of friends via email. There are three evangelicals on The List, and I had an exchange with one of them about this very thing.
I told him I understood the concept of God using flawed people to do his work but asked why God would choose a man like Trump, who is using his office not to do Gods work, but to carry out policies that were completely contrary to Christian principles.
If Trump, despite his history, became POTUS and started doing good works, that would be one thing. But he hasnt.
I asked him if God actually wants kids to be taken from their parents and locked-up, if he wants people to be incited to violence, if he wants the sick to be kicked-off their health insurance, if he wants people to be encouraged to be racists and bigots, if he wants the citizenry to be divided brother against brother, and if he wants our stewardship of the earth to be dismissed as laws protecting the environment are overturned.
I said that if he believes God is all-knowing, then he knew that Trump would do things that were the complete opposite of what Christianity teaches. So why would God choose someone who would harm millions of Americans and people around the world? I asked him to name just one thing Trump has done that is reflective of Christian principles.
He didnt respond for a long time (very unusual for him), and when he finally did respond, it was simply to say you just dont get it. That was all he could come up with to defend his position that Trump was chosen by God to do Gods work.
As Ive often said, evangelicals are the most easily-manipulated people in the country which is exactly why Republicans have deliberately targeted them to join their party, knowing they can be easily-led into voting for them.
The God chose Trump to do Gods work idiocy quickly falls apart when evangelicals are challenged to explain exactly how being cruel, being a racist, being an all-around evil prick is doing Gods work.

(440 posts)...but that "you just don't get it" is the response that gives it all away. Evangelicals are simply not capable of rational thought where their faith is involved.
Evangelistic christianity is a cult anyway, but when you add a totalitarian "leader" to the mix, it becomes something else entirely. I really do fear for our republic and worldwide democracy in general these days.
How does that story go? After talking to someone who escaped Castro's Cuba, a man expresses how lucky he feels to have been born in the United States. The Cuban exile looks at him incredulously and says, "You're lucky? At least I had someplace else to go."

The obvious truth is that their God IS vicious, vindictive and cruel.
