(8,862 posts)They (things) are gonna get REALLY UGLY until November 2020. This is nothing compared to the onslaught of shit I think they will dump on the American people the next 11 months. Segretti? had the perfect name for his doings during the election. He coined the expression "Rat Fucking" for what he was doing to the Democrats. Didn't he end up in prison for his antics? Of course the Republicans then weren't anything like the Trump lovers now..........

The best reasons to fight them:
The argument that 95% of the people who would listen to talk radio prefer the hate and disinformation that the Republican radio monopoly is using to destroy American democracy is an insult to Americans.
With a 20-1 monopoly, expecting liberal talk radio to compete with conservative talk radio is like expecting the local 'mom and pop' to compete with WallMart.

(9,090 posts)they will have to start applying actual market demand to talk radio advertising. rw stations in most places will lose advertisers when they're asked if they want to support trump and global warming denial. some stations will change programming, some will try to offer balance, some may offer liberal talk. the monopoly will fall apart. especially when those universities start to pull sports from those stations and start looking for apolitical alternatives.

(36,160 posts)their letting the Kochs and right wing radio in to spread austerity "issues," and so I've not given one dime.
OTOH, how do we know that AI doesn't already run at least some of their programming. Return of the Fairness Doctrine could clear some airspace, but when "the people's airwaves" was given over to corporate ownership, I doubt there will ever be a level playing field. The Big Six want to keep it that way.
In the 1980's, media corporations successfully lobbied that the national airwaves should no longer be the shared property of the citizens; and so airwaves and channels should be carved up, sold off to the highest bidder at frequency auctions. That part of the commons was sold off to corporate fictionhoods. The 1996 Telecom Act (Bill Clinton) swept away even minimal consumer and diversity protections given by the 1934 act that declared the airwaves a utility.
The Telecom Act has had a detrimental impact on voting.

(9,090 posts)on net neutrality- regulation meant higher prices, would allow big govt (liberals) control of conservative outlets, money is free speech, etc. that buzz dominates even many dem and blue areas of the country
not to mention talk radio finally giving republicans their only congressional majority in decades in 1994, for which limbaugh was given an honorary seat by the cons. i just heard another fool 'expert' analyst blaming/'crediting' gingrich for the increase in partisanship, something that caan be directly correlated with the creation of the talk radio monopoly and the continued stupidity of the 'left' and dems to ignore it

(21,662 posts)Keeping it legal e.g. posting business and personal contact info and addresses for the top sleezebags every time they pull a sleezy act like this one. Does not matter if Moscow Mitch, Moo Moo Nunes, or Grand Wizard Miller is behind each action or not. They all support these things and do nothing to stop them. They need to be flooded with complaints every time. NOT threatened, but totally flooded and protested for being supportive of such tactics against their opponents.
Call, e-msil, and protest in person. "Mr. McConnell, do you support these tactics? If not, why don't you publicly condemn them? If you do support them, why are you such a sleezebag?" Spread the word on social media each time an action needs a response. Put the same info and questions to the sleezebags in open editorial letters in print newspapers and their online pages.
Hound them with thousands of shaming complaints.
Will it change them into being better people? Of course not. Will it flood their e-mail, phone lines, and work or home neighborhoods? I sure hope so.
Its time to fight just as dirty as they do. Sorry Michelle. And we have an endless supply of ammunition.

(21,662 posts)kind of destruction, violence, or blatantly illegal actions in our name, we discredit ourselves. Destruction or violence will create violent, destructive retaliation 10 times worse than anything we do.
No matter how angry or outraged we feel, violence or destruction will lead to civil unrest that could easily escalate to civil war in the form of violent confrontstions in the streets between RWers and us, with armed police or military called up to "maintain order." They will not be impartial. Consider the ugliness of life today in Syria and whether our children, .neighbors, and friends should be subjected to that.
Instead, we need to wage a battle of images and values to turn people away from the thugs and scum. Discredit them. Expose them. Prosecute them. Flood their leaders with complaints. Organize large, PEACEFUL demonstrations with specific cause and focus.

(9,090 posts)it's their most important advantage and most vulnerable. artificial intelligence recently made it very easy cheap and quick to digitize talk radio and that allows listing advertisers and associating them directly with the lies, racism, trump-love, and global warming denial, etc
when the ad industry realizes what's happening it will have to start asking advertisers if they really want to support rw talk. right now a lot of it is spread around so clients have little control unless they pay more. ad industry wants those loud stations and will force them to change programming.
maximise effort by protesting 87 universities that broadcast sports on 260 limbaugh stations. one or two unis beginning the process of looking for apolitical alts others will follow. that will get attention too.

(36,160 posts)88 universities/colleges that help 260 Rush Limbaugh shows attack public education and teachers, while spreading global warming denial, racism, misogyny, and lies.
The number after the state is the number of Limbaugh radio stations in those states endorsed by the listed universities.
The $ figure after the state is the value of Republican propaganda those universities endorse in their states if a 1 hour infomercial or advertisement on a radio station cost $1000 x 15 hrs/day x 5 days = $75,000/WEEK. The names after the $ figure are the universities that broadcast Limbaugh shows.
Total 260 x $75,000 = $19,125,000/WEEK Republican messaging endorsed by these 88 universities.

(19,193 posts)One might ask why they won't leave the Epstein story alone, it reflects terribly on the President. There is literal film of Trump and Epstein groping young women together and real photos of Trump and Epstein partying with young girls together dozens of times. Trump and Epstein were very close for years. So they are overcompensating on this. They want to point the finger at Bill Clinton or make fake photos like this so it obscures Trump's decades long close friendship with Epstein.
Can you imagine if there were film of Bill Clinton and Jeff Epstein groping and grabbing girls at Clinton's private club in Florida? Bill Clinton would literally be sitting in prison right now, they'd have lost their minds. And yet, here we have Trump, on film manhandling and groping a woman who is 1/3 his age with Epstein at his side at his own private club and we hear nothing about it. Somehow the Right wants us to believe that manifestos from an airplane whose use was donated to charity is a bigger indictment of wrongdoing than wrongdoing literally caught on camera.
