I couldn't help but notice while looking at Ohio just now...... in the past 5 presidential elections, the worst the Dems ever did was 2016 with 43.6% of the vote and the best the rethugs did was 51.7% also in 2016
yet, of 132 seats in the Ohio legislature (33 senate and 99 house), the rethugs control 85 of them (64.4%)
All things considered, even if you went by 2016, the worst the Dems did, we should control about 57 seats to their 75.
Gerrymandering?

(35,300 posts)Moderate gerrymandering. For those that are really sensitive, "extensive"--but there are far, far worse examples, some (R) and some (D), so I'll stick with "moderate". A couple of districts that are really over the top, but some that aren't.

Looks like they packed some urban areas to concentrate (D) and cracked a few other areas, but I'm going to hedge on that since there's a requirement that gerrymandering occur to ensure minority districts adequate number of minority voters to have the "proper" representation.

(6,039 posts)As terrible a congressman he is he will likely be reelected in 2020 and beyond because his district is one of the most heavily gerrymandered.
I hope that somehow we can gain some foothold in the state legislature.
