London Knife Attacker Identified; Public Lauds Narwhal Tusk Takedown

Metropolitan Police in London have confirmed that 28-year-old Usman Khan was the attacker who killed two people and wounded three others with a knife on London Bridge Friday before police shot and killed him.

-snip-

Police said they were called to Fishmonger's Hall shortly before 2 p.m. local time, where Khan had attended a conference on criminal justice and prisoner rehabilitation, called "Learning Together," run by the University of Cambridge's Institute of Criminology. Khan had been wearing a fake suicide vest, police said, adding that the attack started inside Fishmonger's Hall. Khan stabbed "a number of people" inside the hall, police said, and The Times reported that one of the two killed died inside the hall.

"I am devastated to learn that today's hateful attack on London Bridge may have been targeted at staff, students and alumni," University of Cambridge Vice Chancellor Stephen Toope said in a statement posted online.

Police said Khan then left the building and moved to London Bridge, where he continued his attack before being apprehended by bystanders, one armed with a narwhal tusk, another with a fire extinguisher. Videos of the attack posted online show Khan being sprayed by a fire extinguisher as another man jabs forward with the tusk.

But you have to ask what kind of societal pressures in the UK that these people are under that they just want to kill.

Ive heard they arent treated very well in the UK. i heard they live in ghetto like conditions being forced to live under onerous laws.

I know they want to live under sharia laws.

They come to the UK looking for fairness and what do thet get?

is that "these people" is completely limited by "who want to kill", so if there are 5 of them that want to kill then the phrase means "those five people." That makes it a small number for whatever population you want to consider them a part of--males, Muslims, people of color, circumcised males, British citizens, English speakers, those who avoid pork, European residents, mammals, or eukaryotic organisms.

Other readings require squinting and not noticing some words.

He’d already been convicted of terroristic acts.

And they don’t need to lock him up. He’s dead.

It is actually an insult to many who are socially and economically discriminated against to insist on
the myth that ISIS actors are poor and ghettoized. Many are well employed and from middle class, even upper middle class.

Those ones kill because they support Isis, and are radical extremists. There is no helping them. They won't be satisfied unless everyone converts. Fuck 'em.

Or dont bother coming. Its that simple. Sadiq Khan is Mayor of London. He's Pakistani; 1st generation British. Born into a working class family. HE made it. He put being British first. Do that. Wherever you are.

Much like a mass shooter in the U.S., one day he "ain't no terrorist" and the next day he is. Too bad gun sellers don't have crystal balls.

Does it seem strange to anyone else besides me that the bystanders were in posession of such odd implements?

Maybe things have changed since the last time I was in London 6 years ago, but I never saw "bystanders, one armed with a narwhal tusk, another with a fire extinguisher."

WTF?

something, anything, to subdue this knife wielding killer. It just happened to be a decorative tusk and a fire extinguisher. But then they chased him out and surrounded him while a third guy tackled the terrorist to the ground.

19. The attack began in the Fisherman's Hall

The people who got the man under some sort of control got the items there - at least that is where the narwhal tusk came from:

"In other footage, someone is seen spraying the attacker with a fire extinguisher, while someone else hits him with a large white pole, reportedly a narwhal horn he grabbed off the wall at Fishmongers' Hall, a witness said on Twitter."
https://www.independent.co.uk/news/uk/home-news/london-bridge-attack-heroes-narwhal-tusk-fire-extinguisher-video-terrorism-a9227146.html

The attack seems to have started there:

"In the early hours of Saturday, officers confirmed earlier reports that Khan began his attack inside Fishmongers’ Hall, near the north end of the bridge, during a University of Cambridge-organised conference on rehabilitating offenders. Officers believe he acted alone.

“The circumstances, as we currently understand them, are that the attacker attended an event earlier on Friday afternoon at Fishmongers’ Hall called ‘Learning Together’. We believe that the attack began inside before he left the building and proceeded onto London Bridge, where he was detained and subsequently confronted and shot by armed officers,” said the Met police assistant commissioner, Neil Basu."
