effect. The law states:

As a discussion on the Internet grows longer, the likelihood of a blockquote]full of a person's being compared to Hitler or another Nazi reference, increases.

There isn't any contest or idea that if you are the party that brings up Hittler and/or Nazies you lose.

the acceleration of fascistic, anti-democracy strategies and goals. References to Nazis are no longer irritatingly stupid and boring. A leading expert in authoritarian takeovers, asked what concerned lay people should watch for, said we need to watch out for "mean people."

I just heard that one husband who would talk in a study group at church about Yom Kippur in honor of a Jewish grandparent didn't this year. They have a business here to worry about, and people are getting mean.

they just use different tools in differing times and situations.

Generally, though, they all do the same things to take over a government.

that really needed to be futhered. Trump didn't just materialize out of thin air, the Repubs have been laying the groundwork for a one party takeover of our government for decades. Far, far too many people who were trying to warn us about authoritarianism were told to shut up because they were just falling into the "Godwin's Law" trap.

History doesn't repeat, but it does rhyme, and those who were actually listening to the music building to the current crescendo were shut down because "Godwin's Law."

was just thinking how the RW noise machine and echo chamber has distorted discourse in our country over the last 20-30 years, and I'm not happy.

There are far right nationalists all over the world. Hitler wasn't the only one.

In this case, however, the discussion concerns “alt righters” marching in Charlottesville who were, well, flying swastikas, Sieg Heil-ing, and wearing shirts with Hitler quotes. And Godwin himself took to Facebook to let everyone know that if it walks like a Nazi and talks like a Nazi, you better let people know what it really is.

"By all means, compare these shitheads to Nazis. Again and again. I'm with you."

And about the Trump regime:

When I woke up this morning, “Nazis” and “#TrumpConcentrationCamps” were trending on Twitter, and on Laura Ingraham’s show, Attorney General Jeff Sessions found himself defending himself against comparison to the Nazis.

His defense: “It’s a real exaggeration, of course. In Nazi Germany, they were keeping the Jews from leaving the country.”

John Podhoretz: "Stop already with the Nazi and Hitler analogies. Really. Stop. What's happening is its own kind of bad and you court discrediting the seriousness of your complaints about it by overstating things so tastelessly and wrongly."

Mike Godwin: "My answer: if your argument is that terrible policy is not really as bad as what the Nazis did, that’s a weak defense."
