I'm overwhelmed by the impeachment proceedings.

(13,429 posts)Had someone else been heading up the Labour Party, they might have won this election instead of suffering the biggest loss in about 90 years.
The Labour Party didn't have a good candidate.

(65,179 posts)I would have hated another Tony Blair type. Personally I like Corbyn. But I dont know a lot about who else would be in the running.
Wish I knew more.

(73,581 posts)I agree. Well said. I think a number of others would have been far, far more likely to win.

(15,465 posts)So now we lose 80+ seats with Jill Stein, I mean Corbyn. I'm sick of purists, what the world needs now is another Bill Clinton (Blair).

(13,429 posts)It's sad how burning it all down might - and it is a big might - be the only way for voters to realize the error of their ways. The ignorance and racism driving the pro-Leave (Brexit) stance will be tough to overcome as those types of people do not readily confront or address their mistakes.

(65,179 posts)That would be disastrous. It is the Conservatives that have weakened it, and then they give excuses as to why they dont need it. Sounds similar to what the Repukes do here.
If getting the Brexit issue over was the big factor, sounds like the British are becoming as dumbed down as Americans.
I have always liked Corbyn as New Labour is too much like New Dems. He has fought them.

(8,361 posts)Trump infects once again.
As has been widely reported, if the Conservatives win the British election, a potential trade deal with the United States could put vital parts of the NHS at risk of privatization. I think everything with the trade deal is on the table, Donald Trump has remarked. NHS or anything else everything will be on the table, absolutely.
Those of us across the pond are horrified on the UKs behalf. Dont let Trump and his cronies carve up the NHS. Vote and fight as if your life depends on it because it does.
A jaw-dropping 34 million Americans say a friend or family member died because they were unable to afford medical treatment. Thats what it means for the health services to be on the table.
Given the high stakes, its no wonder my social media feeds have been dominated by videos informing British voters of the horrors of US healthcare and the superiority of the British model. In one, which has chalked up over 20 million views, Londoners are stunned by the cost of routine procedures such as giving birth in a hospital. Their jaws drop when they hear the extortionate rates charged for prescription drugs. So if youre poor, you die? a young woman asks incredulously. The answer, too often, is yes....

That makes no sense. At. All.

(36,747 posts)The EU will back Scottish independence and membership or Johnson wont get any trade deals.
The EU is going to play hardball after tonite because they now have the UK by the balls.

(54,428 posts)This goes for Europe as well.
All Labour had to do was offer up a pleasant candidate who could put forth acceptable, plausible policies in an appealing manner, and they would have walked with this. Sort of a Tony Blair type with a little more backbone and a little less willingness to be led around on a leash by Washington. Instead, they nominated a guy who was what Bernie Sanders would be if he woke up one day and thought he was Archie Bunker.

(14,971 posts)unfavorables were sky high. They should have replaced him long before this. When asked why they didnt like Corbyn , Brexit was far down the list. The British people didnt like his support for the IRA, his inability to explain how he was going to pay for all his programs and a bunch of other reasons. Ideological purity never wins.
