AThens County native and Heisman Trophy winner Joe Burrow highlighted his hometowns food insecurity issues Saturday night during his acceptance speech. The speech has since prompted more than $100,000 in donations to the Athens County Food Pantry.
An emotional Joe Burrow took to the stage at New York Citys PlayStation Theater Saturday night to accept the 2019 Heisman Trophy.
The Louisiana State University quarterback won in a record-breaking landslide, bringing the honor back to the bayou for the first time in 60 years.
Thanking his fellow teammates, coaches and past Heisman winners was high on the list during Burrows acceptance speech. But after pausing to collect himself, Burrow didnt forget to mention his hometown ties.
Coming from southeast Ohio, its a very, very impoverished area. The poverty rate is almost two times the national average, Burrow said. There are so many people there that dont have a lot, and Im up here for all those kids in Athens and Athens County that go home to not a lot of food on the table, hungry after school. You guys can be up here, too.

(10,217 posts)But when Burrow gives his speech he uses the real word - hungry.
Food insecurity really means nothing. It is beauracratic speak, unemotional, politically correct, approved by those who keep workers hungry.
The filthy rich who created the word want us to consider hunger unimportant, unemotional and really just a beuacratic issue. But Burrow knows it is not. It is life and death, all cusuming pain for those who go hungry.
