I’m Garry Trudeau. You might know me from my work as the creator of the Doonesbury comic strip, but if not, that’s okay. It was never clear to my parents what I did either.

I don’t normally show up in people’s email unbidden, but Loree is a close friend, and I’m so proud to make my voice heard on behalf of Team Sutton.

I met Loree 15 years ago at Walter Reed Hospital in DC – I asked her to show me what our veterans were going through while recovering from serious injuries. She was then the Army’s top psychiatrist, and went on to found and lead the Defense Department’s Centers for Excellence for Psychological Health. After retiring at the rank of Brigadier General, she moved to town as New York’s Commissioner of Department of Veterans' Affairs. New Yorkers soon saw what I’d witnessed for years — Loree’s determination and extraordinary passion for helping those around her. She is one of the smartest, toughest people I know and she is more than ready to serve as the next Mayor of NYC.

I’ve lived in New York most of my life. I love this city, but I know we have work to do. Loree’s experience makes her exactly the leader we need right now and that’s why I’m supporting her.
