2. They're a little too far from the North Atlantic, I think.

Not that all of the member countries are ON the North Atlantic although eleven of the twelve original members (Belgium, Canada, Denmark, France, Iceland, Luxembourg, the Netherlands, Norway, Portugal (sort of), the United Kingdom, and the United States) are (but not Italy). But the organization was formed to create a unified opposition to incursions by the (then) Soviet Union. I hardly think Trump is in favor of a unified opposition to Putin's Russia.
