US firefighters arrive at Sydney airport to applause

US fire fighters arrived at Sydney Int Airport this week, on their way to assist with fire fighting in Victoria.
Coming through, all gathered gave a spontaneous & lengthy round of applause, reflecting the gratitude & admiration we all have for their generosity. #NSWRFS @NSWRFS

in my heart. My dad fought fires for the USFS when he first started working for them in 1963. I’ve had many friends who were/are smoke jumpers and hotshots. They’re heroes...every last one of them.

I live in the Sierras and the Angora Fire was a terrifying thing for our community...they were able to stop it literally at the edge of the actual city limits, it could have been so much worse!

in the US at times of need on big fire seasons for at least a couple of decades. It’s great to see that we can and are returning the favor.

Canadian/Canadien fire fighters poured over the border to help. I wrote a letter to Jean Chretien, the Canadian PM at the time, thanking him for sending his angels to us.

What a lot of people do not know is that fire fighters from Cuba wanted desperately to help also, but their calls to assist were denied.

...respond. A bunch of firefighters are being sent from California.

But Trump? He's still holding up hurricane relief for our fellow Americans in Puerto Rico. Oh wait, he tossed paper towels at them, haha.

I live in an area where these guys walk on water as far as we are all concerned. We take every chance we can to let them know how much we appreciate them.

I bake up a huge tray of goodies and deliver them to our local firefighters. We live in the shadow of Mt. Baker, so there is all matter of types of fires that happen out here. Year round.

I never leave my name and they still don't know who I am (and I'm fine with that). But I always address the platter with this: To our Angels, the Maple Falls Firefighters.

And I always shake their hands when I see them in the grocery stores. These guys put their lives on the line everyday for people they don't know for a paycheck that does NOT do them justice for the threats they face.

Like I said, these guys are the best of us all: our angels.
