They have shown footage of the missile damage on several news programs this morning. If the troops had not gotten a warning, there would have been many casualties.
One missile hit where they ate their dinners. Another missile hit where they slept. It was like they threaded a needle with their missiles. They were very accurate.
Fortunately, the troops did get a warning that the missiles were coming. No doubt, the Iranians believed there would be American casualties. It was a miracle that there were none.
But now, the troops look at the damage done and they feel very lucky. They are fearful of the future, even though they are thankful of the present.

(1,115 posts)They wanted to make sure nobody got killed. They also wanted to make a statement that they could have easily killed many Americans. This was a proportional response.

(81,861 posts)They weren't meant to hit anyone. That's why they gave a warning. Blow up some buildings, claim victory, and move on. By the way, were there any anti-missile systems at those bases? Why didn't they work?

No. They gave Iraq advanced warning knowing they would warn our military.
This time the Iranians were the grownups making Trump look like an idiot.

(698 posts)Appalling as shooting down the airliner was, at the end of the day Iran admitted being at fault. If the position had been reversed, can we imagine Individual-1 ever telling the truth? He's made Iran look good by comparison.

(16,079 posts)The Iranians knew where they can strike to create the most casualties...this was just a warning to the US about what could happen!
And where did the troops get that warning from? The Iranians weren't looking to kill, they were looking to scare...they wanted the US troops to know that they're vulnerable...and that a missile can drop on the mess hall or barracks, without any warning!
I'm willing to bet that the Iranians have people on the ground in the region...and that each US military base already has a bullseye on it...the Iranians probably know where to hit and what the best times are to inflict mass casualties...
Human intelligence gathering is a wonderful thing...especially when most Americans can't tell the difference between an Iraqi and an Iranian...or a Sunni and a Shia...

(3,268 posts)...could drop a bomb "into a pickle barrel" from 20,000 feet...The thing to keep in mind the unstated qualifier "ideally" which accounts for tons of explosives not on target. Commercial GPS is nearly as accurate and much cheaper-time has marched on.
