Running a website like this isn't free. It costs money. The owners aren't donating the website to the public.

Contribute and you won't see those ads, but they're there to help pay to keep Democratic Underground online.

If enough people who use the site donated, there wouldn't be any need for those ads. Think about it.

for earwax ads. I get boardgame and used book ads because that represents about 90% of my search activity. NOBODY is searching about earwax that much!

It's pretty gross. It's a picture of someone pulling a piece of ear wax out of an ear. I don't think it is related to what you search for because I haven't been searching for ear wax.
