When I visit NYC, I have always stayed at the Empire Hotel, literally across the street from Lincoln Center. It's my favorite part of the city. Central Park is nearby. A subway station for the main North/South trains is nearby. Columbus Circle is nearby. I haven't stayed in that hotel for a number of years, so I don't know its status at the moment, but the room rates are not bad, for NYC.
After buying a three-day transit pass, I'm ready to explore.
Right now, you can book a room for as little as $111 per night. It's where to stay on the Upper West Side, I think.

If there was propser winter weather, people could be ice-skating.
