The President of the United States retweeted a picture of Democratic leaders in a headscarf and turban, calling them corrupt and implying they are siding with "the Ayatollahs" demonstrating once again the vulnerability of Muslims in the US. This is a critical moment for us. 1/

The picture highlights a deeply disturbing truth, which is that this President thinks that a good way to insult someone is by painting them as Muslim or as sympathetic to a Muslim country. This is deeply damaging to Muslims in the US & paint us as "the other. 2/

#Islamophobia, like #antisemitism, is damaging to ALL Americans. It undermines our values and the strength of our word. It tarnishes our image and our ability to lead with example. It makes us afraid of each other and weakens the social fabric of our great country. It is wrong 3/

This is the same president that talks to American jews as Israelis. Just as we condemn anti-semitism and racism, all decent people w a platform should raise their voices now to condemn this photo, regardless of their politics. It has to stop. Now. #Islamophobia #Antisemitism 4/4
