articles to the GOP controlled Senate. The GOP side demanded it, and there was debate among Democrats as well concerning how quickly the articles should have been sent.
But Speaker Pelosi waited, and McConnell fumed as polling showed that the public has realized that Trump had broken the law, and that his conduct needed to be investigated. And that he deserved to be impeached.
And now, we have the release of material from Lev Parnas. Material that the GOP and Trump were desperately determined to conceal. Material that is consistent with what the House investigation revealed.
Namely, that Trump and the GOP have been working in concert to break any laws in order to keep power, and to conceal the crimes that they have engaged in.
And this released material, with more to come, will put more pressure on the GOP as they work to hide what they have done.
Thank you, Speaker Pelosi.
Now, how about opening another investigation in the House into the Trump/Hyde/Giuliani/Barr/Pence connection?

(31,261 posts)Lev Parnas and today the GAO report that said Trump broke the law and not for the reason Trump claims. Now republicans are painted in a corner. This is what experience and smarts bring about, Speaker Pelosi has both.

(42,641 posts)As has been discussed here, Trump was clearly emboldened by escaping any punishment after the release of the Mueller Report. He obviously feels that he is above the law.

(1,736 posts)We don't know how much damage has been done or will occur, given that Trump is still president and will probably stand for re-election.
The premature end zone dancing needs to stop. We're in a fight for democracy to endure, and the answer is uncertain. No one knows yet what the best timing is or was on the impeachment process, but IMO public pressure from within the party was a critical factor for why it occurred at all. If this president wasn't such a criminally corrupt failure with no filter whatsoever in his public remarks or any shred of respect for the law, impeachment still probably wouldn't have happened.
The fact that Trump remains president exemplifies how much there is to do to sustain Democratic policies in DC and across the country. Hagiography needs to wait till this president is actually out of office.

(18,486 posts)Impeachment probably wouldn't even have made it out of the House and, even if it did, it would be over and done and a long ago memory not even visible in the rear view mirror

To me, this is yet another Obstruction of Justice charge against Trumpy. They should call him as a witness. Bolton, Parnas, Trump.
What a liar!
