Lev Parnas is the (public) Deep Throat of the fall of All the President's Men and Rachel is the Woodward/Bernstein who broke it open. History is repeating itself. The tide is turning. @realDonaldTrump and @VP should resign now.

(14,961 posts)for this. When she was a baby, she stayed at home with her mom, while she watched the Watergate hearings. Her enthusiasm for the moment on impeachment Eve, was downright infectious. She deserves this and I couldn't be happier for her.

(22,670 posts)for his own political gain, should have a punishment that is unlike any other impeached POTUS has ever been held to. The punishment should be so severe that no elected official should ever dare to repeat such illegal and treasonous actions.

(2,692 posts)If Trump was dealing with Putin out of an ideological belief, he'd be a traitor, but I could almost respect him, even as I applauded his ascending of the gallows.
But Trump knows no ideology. He's the titular head of the U.S.A. and all of his crimes against this country and its people have been solely for his own personal gain and political aggrandizement. He won't be ascending any gallows for his crimes -- but I'd sure as heck applaud the hangman -- and the worst punishment he faces is being forced to leave office in disgrace even while 10s of millions of his loyal, mindless true-believers take to the streets to vent their impotent rage.
But he's not going to be forced to leave. I think it's fairly certain that this impeachment trial ain't goin' nowhere. McConnell has already said as much and Chief Justice Roberts is not about to upset the applecart by intervening and insisting on a real trial, with witnesses and documentary evidence. (And that will be a real shame because Roberts involvement in this trial will absolutely put an indelible imprint on his "legacy" and place in history: he'll be either a craven coward who allowed the ultimate descent of our democracy into authoritarianism, or he'll be the hero who fought the good fight to preserve the America that, in spite of its many problems, has been a beacon of individual freedom to the world.)

(2,692 posts)I think you may be somewhat optimistic about Trump and Pence sharing the fates of Nixon and Agnew. That turning tide you claim is upon us -- gosh, I hope you're right about it, I really do, but I just won't smile until I see them both leave, whether in 'cuffs or on that helicopter, either way would be wonderful.
(Well, OK, I did smile at that cute little wiggle of your bum at the end of that dance routine.)
