As a black woman who experienced and understands the depth of black girl hair culture and who has family members suffering from alopecia, I am so proud of and grateful to her.
And while I know beauty is only skin deep, my breath was taken away by her glorious natural beauty.

(10,895 posts)her courage. I found her video very poignant, something most women could identify with because our hair--though it may be a superficial part of who we are--is really important to most women. It just is, the way we fuss and fume on a bad hair day?
So, to this woman's moxie. I wish I could be as strong and confident to do a reveal like this one. Or look half as gorgeous.
Wow!

(15,580 posts)I watched her video and all I could think of while watching was that the rest of us women, black and white and any other color, need to stop letting others define what "beauty" is. So much time of women's lives are taken up with their appearance and wondering if it meets the standard of what our culture defines as beautiful.
In my younger years men who were bald were sometimes poked fun of. Mostly they were the older men you'd see that were bald. Men turned that around and now even young men actually try to be bald by shaving their heads and people grew to accept that.
