And in any other environment, a rapid conviction should follow. This Republican Senate, however, prefers utter corruption to preserving democracy. I suspect that McConnell has promised them re-election by whatever means needed if they stick with him. I think the impeachment managers know that Republicans are not listening—they are playing to a broader audience of November voters. I just hope enough voters are paying attention.

when no intellectually astute lawyer would have touched this case with a 10ft pole.

It was to the point where even Dershowitz has gone around on the media claiming that he "wasn't part of the President's legal team" and that he was just there as what is basically an "expert witness" (on the Constitution).

I think of the Russian legal code as fitting roughly in the same amount of space as my set of Harry Potter books. And have been appalled at the lenient sentences for domestic violence, etc. I hadn’t heard about the trial by telephone aspect.
