Stupid Talking Point # 5 : "All Presidents ask foreign leaders for personal favors."

It's the latest incarnation of "whataboutism" and false equivalency. Example:
Obama asked Medvedev to delay missile defense to help his own re-election, blah blah blah . . . .

Has any other POTUS ever . . .

smeared one of his own Ambassadors for the purpose of advancing his own personal interest?

removed (with veiled threats) one of his own Ambassadors in order to achieve his own personal interests?

sent his "personal lawyer" and a gang of miscreants to pressure a foreign leader into libeling his political
opponent in order to help himself to win an election?

withheld Congressional foreign-aid money from a foreign nation (illegal) in order to extort their cooperation,
thereby placing peoples' safety at risk both here and abroad?

I can't think of one.

Trump's actions can only be characterized as:

Unethical
Dishonest
Dishonorable
Unprecedented
Unconstitutional
Worthy of Impeachment.

Yet, the Republicans in the Senate have every intention to protect HIM.
Their defense is: "It's no big deal!"
I have come to expect this from "The Party With No Shame"

republicans are truly cowards, and traitors. I hope their constituents watch this charade, see their "representatives" acting like schoolkids and decide they are unfit for office. I wonder who gave out those fidgets for them to pass their time, while ignoring evidence? I think EVERY last democratic representative should stay away from the State of the Union speech, since it means nothing coming from a disgraced, impeached ass. It will just be a love fest to himself, taking credit for everything good that has happened since the USA first came into being. This country is going down the tubes - FAST. Thanks republicans.

His speech won't sway Democrats and it won't be needed to sway his base.

But his speech will peal away some people who previously voted for him. It won't attract any new voters to him.

If the impeachment trial is still running, he will whine and make the speech about himself.

If he has been acquitted he will crow about being "exonerated" and he will appear stupid and self-serving.
