Someday someone'll write a good narrative of how Reagan led to Gingrich led to the Tea Party led to Trump, all the while funded by the Kochs & Co. & egged on by "respected" conservative columnists as well as right wing media. It's all one story. Should be seen as such.

(70,508 posts)... we now have had 35+ years of right wing disinformation getting into and infecting the brains
of millions of Americans. Did you know that Hillary had somebody killed in order to hide Bills
cocaine ring?
and the final death blow was Citizens United

(70,508 posts).... and you have the perfect storm. Republicans know that the demographics have them cooked
so they have been working to game the system for years. Sometimes it is just too much to take
knowing that Trump is in the White House because of massive Russian interference and our use of
the electoral college which was put into place in order to keep southern slave owners happy.

(15,740 posts)That crooked rat bastard is the original source of the infection that has wrecked civil political discourse. He helped spawn the careers of Roger Ailes, Dick Cheney, and Don Rumsfeld, among many other Republican assholes.

(29,716 posts)I don't remember who the people were who plotted to assassinate FDR, Smedly Butler was the hero of that story; but they got stamped out for a long time and then came the 2 Santas.

(58,660 posts)Shit, Roger Stone dates back to Nixon. The actual person sitting in the Oval Office has been a figurehead in every Repub administration since Reagan, with the possible exception of Bush Sr, who had the temerity to sign on to tax increases.
Most of the Trump admin are refried NeoCons from the Bush era. While Trump is a bit of a loose cannon, they don't care. He makes a good distraction while the real work goes on behind the scenes.
Same shit, different day. Same assholes working behind the scenes.

Yrs ago I "enlightened and reformed" a moderate repug simply because we shared one progressive value for which I earned his respect. He's now a very vocal liberal. However, I failed in my attempts to dislodge his blind respect for St. Reagan. Anyway, i celebrated his conversion.
I'm tempted to send him this tweet.

(5,269 posts)Just think how many elections were corrupted and swayed by the dirty tricks led by Roger Stone with backup support of Manafort and of course Karl Rove.

(4,609 posts)The right-wing prion disease went mainstream with Limbaugh and the demise of the Fairness Doctrine, and from then on, one can draw a direct line from the ever-more-extreme radicalism being pumped out to the base and the real world insanity it provoked. You can literally scan through the record and show how new forms of insanity were birthed on talk radio and immediately jumped first to "the base", then to fringe Republican politicians, then finally to senior GOP leadership. And now the insane-o-sphere is large enough that it can keep a significant portion of the electorate totally quarantined from fact-based reality, perpetually stewing in extremism juice and completely beyond reach.
A demented Republican president who gets his most trusted daily policy advise from Fox & Friends was the natural end result of this process.
