rather than turn against him. Jim Jones and the Peoples Temple. Applewhite and Heaven's Gate. So far, the GOP Senate.

And sing happy songs of praise to Dear Leader as they begin to fall lifeless to the floor, until all is darkness, and silence

She was in it for 7 years, and did not come to her senses until a child died from lack of medical treatment. I think the dynamic with Trump is similar.

Unfortunately something bad enough to make Republicans come to their senses will be very bad for all of us...

Jones cult members killed themselves. Trump cult members want to kill everyone else.

Were going to shoot them if they didn't.

I remember that well. Those people weren't given a choice.

That was part of what made it so horrendous.

A visiting Senator was killed too. He had flown in.

And those people were so isolated in that jungle that they couldn't just sneak off. Where would they have gone to?

Listen to the recordings. A few people were openly challenging what was happening, but most of them willingly killed themselves because of group pressure, not because a soldier had a pistol to their head.

This is a fascinating look at the murder/suicide .

It was complicated. In some ways Jim Jones was kind of like Trump. He liked Hitler. He wanted total control. But his followers were the opposite of Trump's. They were good people who wanted to do good in the world.

This article in Rolling Stone is fascinating.

I can't send a link from my phone but maybe someone else can. I just googled Jim Jones and it came up.

Jones never had the power to destroy the Constitution and all life as we know it.
Trump does. And as for the people who refuse like the kool aid drinkers? He has militias in place to make sure they comply.
