Falwell and W.Va. governor pitch Virginia secession plea "Vexit"

Food short read.

CHARLESTON, W.Va. (AP) — In what they acknowledged is a long-shot bid, West Virginia Gov. Jim Justice and Liberty University President Jerry Falwell Jr. urged unhappy Virginia counties Tuesday to secede and join a neighboring state where Democrats aren’t in charge.

“If you’re not truly happy where you are, we stand with open arms to take you from Virginia or anywhere where you may be,” said Justice, who’s running for reelection. “We stand strongly behind the Second Amendment and we stand strongly for the unborn.”

“What’s happening in Virginia right now is a tragedy in the making,” Falwell said. “Democratic leaders in Richmond, through their elitism and radicalism, have left a nearly unrecognizable state in their wake.”

The announcement from Falwell and Justice drew laughs from both sides of the aisle in Virginia.

A spokeswoman for Virginia’s Democratic Gov. Ralph Northam dismissed the idea, saying “As always, Jerry Falwell’s words speak for themselves.”

Not them. West Virginia is #3 in government spending per capita.

When they're in the majority (by hook or by crook), Republicans delight in making people miserable, guaranteeing that the system doesn't work in favor of most citizens, except by accident. When they find themselves in the minority, or seriously challenged, they whine and pout and want to take "their" ball and run home.

I'm glad to see that these childish remarks drew the appropriate scornful laughter.

They were assholes. This state turned hard and fast. Governor races and Senate seats yeah but when we flipped to Obama it's was over and it's not going back.

I've heard a lot that few days about how deeply bad Republicans and conservatives think that is. Some of them go so far to throw in Bible quotes about submitting to the civil authorities and how they're ordained by God Almighty.

Falwell better watch himself. That God fella he talks about sounds like a real vindictive so-and-so.

Red counties in California were mouthing succession until they had heavy rains that threatened dams and wildfires. Then the idea of being part of something larger started to make sense.
