The CEO of a Tempe-based organic fertilizer company was suspended after being caught on video directing a racial slur at an Uber driver, who is an Arizona State University student, on Jan. 31.
Randy Clarke, a 25-year-old ASU student and Uber driver, shared the video of a man later identified as Hans Berglund, the CEO of Tempe-based Agroplasma, calling him the N-word after a confrontation in his car.
Clarke and civil-rights activist the Rev. Jarrett Maupin held a press conference outside Tempe City Hall on Wednesday morning to "demand justice" following the incident.
"It's shocking when you see anyone use that word or engage in that kind of racism in any circumstance," Maupin said. "There's really no excuse for why Hans Berglund engaged in the activity and used the language that he did with Mr. Clark."
