February 9, 2020
We wont credential him as a conservative. I suppose if he wants to come as a non-conservative and debate an issue with us, maybe in the future we would have him come. This year, Id actually be afraid for his physical safety, people are so mad at him.
The biggest problem we have with Mitt Romney is not that hes just an individual following his political course. Its the fact that hes lied so continuously to conservatives.
When he needed a conservative like Donald Trump to endorse him in his Senate primary, he wanted in. But then, when he gets the Senate job, he wants to distance himself from Trump. Hes a use em and lose em kind of guy.
He said he would going to be an extreme conservative that he was the most conservative guy in the world he came to CPAC. After 2012, he didnt want to have anything to do with us. CPAC chairman Matt Schlapp, on Greta Van Susterens Full Court Press.

(14,919 posts)and bellowed threats are meaningless. It is highly unlikely Romney would have been interested in attending in the first place.
https://www.aim.org/aim-column/media-overlooks-romneys-history-with-cpac-in-hyping-formal-disinvitation/
..."The media highlighted CPACs disinvitation of Romney without providing context on whether the formal disinvitation was truly newsworthy. For example, one headline from CNN read, Organizer of conservative conference wont invite Mitt Romney after impeachment trial vote. Romneys stance on Trump is nothing new, as he has a history of criticizing the president on multiple occasions.
Despite the medias coverage of the formal disinvitation, Romney has not attended nor spoken at CPAC since 2013. He spoke at the event in 2012, when he was running for president as the GOP nominee, and also in 2013 after he lost the 2012 presidential election. Romney did not return to the conference since then, but none of this information made it into the mainstream medias coverage. Of all the mainstream outlets, only The Hill reported about Romneys past CPAC appearances.
Romney, a U.S. Senator from Utah and the former 2012 GOP presidential nominee, has been a consistent critical voice of the president, such as voting to allow more witnesses to testify during the Senate impeachment trial last week. The senator also criticized Trumps rhetoric in the 2016 election cycle and spoke at a University of Utah event about Trumps allegedly divisive rhetoric. In his speech, he called Trump [a] con man, a fake.
.......
Considering Romneys public criticism of Trump, it was unlikely Romney would have attended this years meeting in the first place."

(3,784 posts)Seriously, when I see Republicans, ALL I see are a bunch of guys who either were bullies or were the ones who GOT bullied when they were young.
The vast majority of Republicans, the worst thing they could do to him would be to give him a vicious poke to the shins with their canes.

(24,416 posts)while Republicans are literally threatening a sitting US Senator with harm all over a vote they didn't like but Democrats are the ones with problems?

(24,416 posts)is beyond me. If rank-and-file party members are getting to the point where they might physically harm another person, let alone a sitting US Senator over a vote they didn't like, I'd say that it's time to re-evaluate what exactly your party stands for and/or who's running it.

Makes me glad I can think for myself.

(6,960 posts)I know a few QAnon Trump fanatics ... there are going to be more Trump inspired tragedies like mail bomber Cesar Sayoc and the Tree of Life murders.
Fear, grievance, and victimization are powerful motivators and Trump is clearly enthused to use them.

An admission that Cons are lawless thugs.
