The United States Government will not renew its funding of National Integrity Action (NIA) when the current agreement ends next month. Instead, Ambassador Donald Tapia says Washington is to direct that money to improving Jamaica's judicial system .

Ambassador Tapia revealed his Government's intention during a discussion with Jamaica Observer reporters and editors at the newspaper's Beechwood Avenue headquarters in St Andrew on Tuesday afternoon.

“We spent US$10.9 million. That's a lot of money,” he said of the US Government's funding of the NIA, which describes itself as a “non-profit organisation aimed at combating corruption and building integrity in Jamaica”.

The head of anti-corruption watchdog National Integrity Action is rejecting assertions by US Ambassador Donald Tapia that there was no value for money from NIA projects funded by the Americans.

Ambassador Tapia made the comments at a Rotary Club meeting earlier this month, and it was reported Thursday that he has announced that Washington will not renew its funding to the NIA.

Professor Trevor Munroe, Executive Director of NIA, said Ambassador Tapia's comments contradict excellent evaluations by the USAID which gave grant funding to the non-governmental organisation.

He said the USAID evaluations note the value for money obtained from NIA initiatives, the success of the programme, the level of cooperation and partnerships forged, as well as the extent to which the leadership of the NIA has added substantial value to the success of the work amongst Jamaican people.

EVENING NEWSUpdate: Munroe Denies Accusing Holness-Administration Of Corruption As He Hits Back At US Ambassador
Executive Director of the National Integrity Action, NIA, Professor Trevor Munroe, is hitting back at US Ambassador to Jamaica, Donald Tapia.

Without naming the individual, the US Ambassador had said an anti- corruption campaigner accused the Andrew Holness administration of being corrupt without providing substantive proof.

In a subsequent news article it was revealed that the US government would not renew its funding of National Integrity Action when the current agreement ends next month.

Speaking earlier today during Cliff Hughes Online, Professor Munroe denied accusing the Holness administration of being corrupt.

Nationwide is the JLP's (Holness) mouthpiece

Now why would Trevor deny a fact?
