Bush to stay out of Republican 'swamp'

(AFP) – 15 hours ago

MANCHESTER, New Hampshire — Former president George W. Bush has decided not to "wade into the swamp" of the Republican presidential primary battle but will support the winner, a well-placed source said.

"He has decided not to 'wade into the swamp,'" according to a source familiar with the Republican president's thinking, who described Bush's decision on condition of anonymity.

"He'll of course support the GOP nominee, but doesn't really care to weigh in. He likes following politics but doesn't feel the need to be out there 'opining, bloviating.' It's just not him," the source told AFP.

Bush handed President Barack Obama the keys to the White House three years ago this month after serving two terms but has kept a strikingly low profile as Republicans battle over who will take on the embattled Democrat in November.

Party pooper. Come on George, we would love to hear you bloviate. It is just not the same without you in the swamp.

Pretty telling that Bush refers to the Republican primary process as "the swamp."
Between Bush not wanting to "wade into the swamp" and McCain accidentally praising Obama and dissing Romney, it is clear that Republican leaders are not exactly on board with the current crop of Republican Presidential hopefuls.

Shrub: Hiya Mitty, hey great job on that 8-vote landslide in Ioway (hee-hee). Reminded me of my landslide in 2000 (hee-hee). Listen boy, I'd like to give you my endorsement tomorrow.

Mittens: Gee, Mr. President...I don't know what to say.

Shrub: You don't have to say anything--I can hear the emotion in your voice. Reminds me of me when I has a real hard bowel movement (hee-hee).

Mittens: Yeah, listen, you...umm...know how much I love you and your entire family.

Shrub: Your my kind of guy too, Mitty. I could easily have seen you on my College cheer-leading squad.

Mittens: I don't want to put you out with an endorsement. That's way above the call of duty for an ex-president.

Shrub: And I've already been working on my speech to the convention, too! Man, you'll love how I give you my personal blessing.

Mittens: Yeah...about the convention. Remember, how you didn't attend the convention last time...

That has been my sole vision of GWB since he left office. And it was what I envisioned about half of the time that he WAS in office.

Well, of COURSE the candidates made that decision for him -- they're smart enough to realize that any sign of Bush around their campaigns will remind too many voters that the Bush regime CREATED that swamp! Besides, the fact that someone had to approach the media "on condition of anonymity" and volunteer this information suggests that Georgie tried to reach out and was rebuffed.

Bush left office with an approval rating of 30% or so. But much of that 30% votes in Republican primaries. He's also still wildly popular among Evangelical Christians (who also vote in Republican primaries). And he has access to a substantial fundraising network that even Mitt Romney would be happy to have.

Don't look for anybody to be trotting him out during the general election. But during the primaries, he'd be an asset for sure.
