(3,784 posts).........he'd make a formidable Presidential candidate in 2028. He will have gained valuable executive experience (one of his weaknesses), and maybe by then a lot of the "I can't vote for one of THOSE guys" types will have died off.
One thing that's clear, though, is that he is destined for bigger and better things.

(7,003 posts)I never paid much attention to Pete, or Beto, or Julian. I know they are in Red States, but I think you have to have held statewide office.
Not that I wouldn't have voted for them. I prefer a long time heavy hitter, though a young Senator or Governor with the juice could get me on board.
For much of the same reasoning, I'm just not feeling Stacy Abrams for VP when she's only been a state legislator. Kamala, Amy, or Liz would make more sense.

(10,125 posts)For his Oval Office aspirations, a term as Governor would be nice on the resume.
Unfortunately, the 2020 contest in Indiana is underway. 2024 would be his first shot at that in Indiana.
Indiana Senator Buttigieg in 2022 works for me on a couple of levels - for his experience and taking a GOP Senate seat.
For Cabinet posts, he could do nearly anything, but maybe some of these build off his previous experiences
