#Coronavirusnyc the mayor and the governor say NY has the capacity to test without going through the CDC. De Blasio says anyone who has concern about their own health, no matter if you have insurance or not, call 311. You will get help. Community spread is real. NY is ready.

that's really great news. the more ability to test in this country, the better we know where we stand with the virus and can develop game plan to handle it.

(1,294 posts)8. NYS just got permission on Saturday
from the Feds to do their own testing and process in their own labs.

(58,758 posts)4. I actually imagine there are labs all over the country that could do it...
It can't be that hard for a well equipped and stocked lab to isolate and identify a virus.
I understand that CDC may have to license or approve of a local test, but it shouldn't be that hard to do.

is one of the best state labs in the country. Their people, facilities and capabilities are very impressive. In partnership with hospitals around the state they currently have the capacity to do 1,000 tests per day. I'm not surprised they're on top of this pathogen. Plus, Trump can't interfere with them.
