Coronavirus in N.Y.: Cuomo Confirms Second Case in the State

The case in Westchester County indicates that community transmission is likely underway in the state.

ALBANY, N.Y. — Gov. Andrew M. Cuomo announced on Tuesday morning a second confirmed case of coronavirus in New York, a man in his 50s in Westchester County, just outside of New York City, suggesting that it was spreading in communities with no known connection to hot spots for the disease.

The patient, whose test was confirmed overnight by a state lab in Albany, had no direct connection with any known center of the contagion, which was first identified in China in late December.

On Sunday, officials announced the state’s first case, a 39-year-old woman in Manhattan, a health care worker who had been visiting Iran, one of the epicenters of the virus’s rapid worldwide spread.

Governor Cuomo said the news of the second New York patient should not be a cause for alarm, reiterating that health officials had expected that the disease would be found in multiple locations around the state and would be likely to spread.

You're right. It has already spread throughout the metropolitan area. Sanity Claws Mar 2020 #4

I live in the Bronx, about 1.5 miles from the border with Westchester. If anyone hears where this person lives in Westchester, please let me know.
I read the article and it did not identify the town in Westchester.
BTW, for people who live outside of NYC and may not be familiar with Westchester, hundreds of thousands of people from Westchester travel into NYC via Metro-North every day. If the virus is in Westchester, expect to see it show up in NYC.

...just not being reported as such yet.

That said, it was expected, and nothing changes - just keep washing your hands and not touching your face.

I have glasses for distance that I don't wear on a regular basis. They would be good at stopping me from touching anywhere near my eyes but I keep forgetting to wear them.
