Trump says there's a "positive impact" to the worldwide coronavirus outbreak because people are "staying in our country" and are "shopping and using our hotels in this country."
3,221 people around the world have died from coronavirus, with 9 in the USA.

Without evidence Trump says on coronavirus testing "the Obama administration" made a "decision on testing that turned out to be very detrimental" and that he "undid that decision."
The Trump administration has been criticized for not testing enough people for the virus.

(70,504 posts)Trump fired all the people from Homeland Security who dealt with threats from infectious diseases
because President Obama started that program.

(11,738 posts)No one here on DU, but DU is a place where a good majority of us read, research, and understand things. Trump throws out lies in volumes that affect what is being talked about. This statement may just be a throwaway statement but someone will hear it and run with it. Fox News will pick it up and begin to talk about how the Obama Administration did... coronavirus... unprepared... and will blast out how Trump did some great new thing.

(345 posts)Picture a local news "man on the street" type interview with a person wearing a MAGA cap.
Which scene is more likely?
A ) "I heard the president say that our ability to respond to COVID-19 was severely reduced due to actions by Obama, but I looked into the facts and found that this is not true. In fact, our unpreparedness is due directly to actions taken by the current administration."
B) "Well, Obama cut all the stuff we need now to take care of this, so since people are dying from it he ought to be locked up for murder."

(9,287 posts)as POTUS. During those three plus years HIS signed budget proposals were in depth enough to cut deeply into the CDC and its specific programs. He obviously looked at the CDCs operations and felt they needed to be substantially cut and the stable genius never mentioned prior decisions.
Obama has not been POTUS since 2017 but Orange Virus-45 has had time during his reign of error to attend Nuremberg party events where he mused on toilet flushing pressure. Good God when will the party of individual responsibility ever own up to their responsibility for governing?

(11,738 posts)"Personal responsibility" is only a catchphrase that means, "The government will not help you. You are on your own. Unless you are rich, then the government will do whatever it can to help you".
This is not directed specifically at you bronxiteforever but anyone waiting on the Republicans to accept responsibility for anything, is on a fool's errand.
Republicans do not govern. Republicans are in power. Republicans do not believe in government. They want to rule.

(15,031 posts)It's hard to see Trump's supporters ever deserting him en masse, and those who despise him will only grow more staunch in the days ahead, but the stark reality of his failures over this outbreak, and the risk he will place so many people in, will definitely solidify those in the middle who may be wavering.
