1. off topic, but with anniversary a few years ago, I read Jackie Spiers account & bio of Rep Leo Ryan,

which is grim albeit fascinating reading. I was horrified to realize that the Boston Globe (and quite possibly other newspapers) ran a photo of the late Rep Ryan after his fatal shooting/autopsy. Of course, that was during a time when death from Vietnam had been front and center on tv screens so...

Jackie Spiers is quite a woman, though. I don't think she's interested in higher office, but she should.

But to your original question, yes, most did think his followers might turn on Jones but few did.
