Related: Editorials & Other Articles, Issue Forums, Alliance Forums, Region ForumsWhy are we surprised that Trump dropped the ball on the coronavirus testing?
Don't Republicans want to dismantle the federal government and allow the States to handle their own responses? Isn't that what the Right-wing Supreme Court justices are doing now? Refusing to rule on laws that will recognize rights that should be guaranteed to everyone, regardless of which state we live in. Instead, they're yielding back to the State courts.
No surprise without a leader who is ready to properly inform us of what is going on we have people who think the concern is hyped by the media. And a few others don't believe it exist.
I have his prediction to make: The day that this virus hits a vulnerable right-wing community with old retirees, their eyes will open. I don't wish this on anyone. But the Villages showed us how vulnerable these communities are when venereal disease spred at a high clip. What do you think they'll do when the coronavirus hits their community?
I would like to believe that will be the moment we all come together and recognize the danger that this Administration put us in; and that we see the inadequacy of Republican States rights.

(58,654 posts)and I don't buy that the media is all that surprised. They may be acting like it, but Trump is just being Trump. It's how he ran his campaign, it was how he ran the transition, and it is how his whole administration has operated.
Anybody who is acting surprised now has been intentionally ignorant.

(46,706 posts)But I get it now. These bully type of leaders who just want to run with their personal agenda believe anything that doesn't fit into that agenda will just eventually go away. So they can ignore it. And that's exactly what is happening with Trump.
It doesn't matter if it's local or the executive office. Republicans all have the same leadership qualities.

(58,654 posts)they can bark orders and force compliance. Real leadership, IMNSHO implies an ability to get people who don't agree with you to go along, even if reluctantly. Trump, and most Repubs just like to give orders and they expect everybody to buckly under.
I decided a long time ago that Trump wasn't really faking it. I suspect Trumplodytes think he's really a nice guy in private. You know, his public face is all an act. Nope, I don't buy it. You can tell by how his wife and his son act when around him.

(153,160 posts)the absolute dread I felt on election night in 2016 was the absolute certainty I had that if faced with a crisis, Trump would not just fail, he would make things much worse

(46,706 posts)I've only seen that level of incompetence at the local level. Never expected to see someone in the oval office use it to such effect as Trump. Even blaming Obama for the lack of testing! WHAT!

(46,706 posts)Generally at the local level the government, as you expect to find it, is just a front. The real government is running in the background. Good ole boy networking and semi-private meetings.
Trump's response to the virus is exposing another kind of two tracked government. There is his response, which is nothing. And then everyone else is trying to fill in the void. Like the States testing for the virus on their own, without CDC approval.
This is what a government break-down looks like.
