Texas will be a House and Senate battleground this year, and while some general election races are already taking shape, others will be decided in May.
Democrats are targeting seven GOP-held House seats in the Lone Star State this fall, while Republicans are eyeing two Democratic freshmen in traditionally red suburban territory. The state could also play host to a competitive Senate race, and a dozen Democrats competed Tuesday to take on three-term GOP Sen. John Cornyn.
But some of the top races wont be decided for more than two months. Texas has a primary runoff provision when no candidate wins a majority of the vote. In those cases, the top two vote-getters will advance to a May 26 runoff.

(43,349 posts)I think the GOP realize this and it is part of the reason for their behavior - exploring alternate ways to retain power.
When those 38 Electoral votes go into the blue column, it gets really difficult for the GOP to win the White House. The demographics are shifting that way.
We just have to avoid a Trump dictatorship ... and in time, blue Texas will come to pass.

(19,564 posts)Bookmark this. I'm not over inflating our progress here.
It's trending away from red more every cycle. Even the gerrymandering is being diluted by the natural migration of people. Not all, but more every cycle.
Purple is our near future here. We're whittling away at the state Republican seats more each election... that's how we get sustainable change.
We're working on it here. Rest assured!

(6,137 posts)especially with Biden on top of the ticket. He was only 2% short but with MUCH larger turnout in November, he may win this thing.

(10,156 posts)It'll be a battleground state. 2018 was very close for Beto. 2020 might knock it down more. 2024 will seal it more or less. Cruz will be up again in 2024 and I doubt he'll win again
