Let's see what things look like in a few weeks. Premature victory laps seem to be a GOP specialty.

I note that he did not actually link to the poll so it begs the question if it even says that.

https://news.gallup.com/poll/286277/high-confidence-government-handle-coronavirus.aspx

And as you suspected, it does not say that. It merely asked Americans how confident they are in the government's ability to handle the outbreak. It was certainly NOT a rating of the job they are actually doing. But Trump can never resist an opportunity to pat himself on the back and denigrate others.

that's normally what governments do.

Let's see if they repeat the poll in three weeks and if the results remain the same.

Totally meaningless. It likewise is responding to question of Federal Government ability to handle, not administration.

The CDC predicts that at least 12,000 Americans will die from the flu in any given year.

HealthDay ReporterFRIDAY, Feb. 7, 2020 (HealthDay News) -- Folks fretting about the coronavirus are forgetting there's another virus already running rampant in the United States, one that's killed nearly 20 times as many people in this country alone.

Influenza has already taken the lives of 10,000 Americans this season, according to the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. At least 19 million have caught the flu, and an estimated 180,000 became so ill they landed in the hospital.

It's been what.... a week since the first community transmission of COVID-19 has been confirmed? We are still unable to do adequate testing.

And Trump is claiming bragging rights?

I'd say he suffers from premature adulation.

"The April 2009-10 Swine Flu, where nearly 13,000 people died in the U.S., was poorly handled."

That tweet is coming from the same guy who apparently just learned that there are tens of thousands of flu deaths each year in the United States.

The CDC estimates there were 61,000 flu deaths during the 2017-2018 season - the worst toll in 40 years. Who was the President then?

We would see the real numbers. Shocking numbers.

However they’ve decided that a half-assed response will prevail...

This Gallup poll is useless anyhow; as mentioned above.

In a few more weeks; after we have half a dozen (or more) cluster cities; after it starts affecting someone you know personally; they’ll be looking for heads on a pike pole.

Enjoy your disillusioned self-congratulatory ego trip; your trip is short...

This is insane and extraordinarily dangerous. A president who cares more for "ratings" than actually caring for the country. This has the potential to be disastrous
