Thinking long term about the VP choice...

Assuming Joe makes it, he will be the oldest Pres ever sworn in.

Assuming we need a woman as VP, preferably a woman of color, of which there are numerous candidates that would fit the bill.

Now, the long term thing. Suppose Joe, with his black woman VP, decides to retire after one term (not early necessarily, but it could go that way, too). The black woman VP gets to run as an incumbent (well almost ), and voila! we reach that long awaited goal.

Thoughts?

Dream scenario, and it is quite possible. I will be disappointed if Biden doesn't select a woman. Hoyt Mar 2020 #1

Hillary went squishy, picking Tim Kaine. Not a bad choice, but a boring one.

Joe's campaign could use some pop! Biden is the "safe" choice, his VP choice should be a bit edgy.

I just think she's one of the most brilliant people I've ever seen. Her knowledge of foreign affairs and law would be huge plusses. She could patch things up with our allies, and she can tell an adversary from a friend. Also, she's not a sitting Senator (added bonus).

She'd be a decent choice, TBS. Would also be a great Sec of State.

Quite a few people opined that Joe should select a young WOC as VP and he would retire early to give her a leg up. I'm all for this!

Biden aides weigh making a one-term pledge and VP announcement

According to multiple reports, Biden's team may make an early running mate pick and even pledge that the former vice president will only serve for one term. Biden has not yet announced his intention to join the Democratic presidential race. He met Georgia Democrat Stacey Abrams last week, stoking speculation she could be Biden's VP pick.

IDK about pledging a single term, but it would be a way to increase the possibility of 12 years of Dem administration.

It'll take that much and more to recover from Trumpism.

Could be Stacy Abrams, Susan Rice, Kamala although she would be great as AG. I'm sure there are many more.

It'll be hard enough for a white female VP to combat misogyny

If Trump chooses that creepy Nikki Haley, a Dem VP can't be a person of color

since he, too, would be the oldest nominee ever.

There is a strong possibility that either of these men could face a serious health issue before the end of their term, or not be fit enough to run for a second term. So I agree, choosing a highly competent VP is crucial.

Warren has the most national visibility right now of any woman in American with the capability to heal the rift in the Democratic party, regardless of which man winds up at the top of the ticket.

I hope either Biden or Sanders would put her at the top of their list.

and Sen Warren would be excellent, TBS. I'm a little leery of pulling too much talent out of the Senate. Liz would make a great committiee chair somewhere in the Senate if we could manage a takeover.

Lots of good women candidates, race considerations aside.

I worry that it will produce impatience with Joe, will there be a feeling out there of. "Hurry up and die or resign already..." among people who want too much too fast?
